About the author
Dr. John Badger's early career included positions at Brandeis University, BioSym/MSI and the RCSB PDB. He was a Principal Scientist at Structural GenomiX and Director of Structural Biology at ActiveSight. He is currently the Director of Structural Biology at Zenobia Therapeutics and a consultant with expertise in Fragment Based Lead Discovery, high-throughput protein crystallography and protein structure analysis.
Dr. Badger has been a developer and manager of two commercial consortia for the creation of software for high throughput protein crystal structure solution. Recent work includes the development and support for automation components of an emerging Open Source software for protein crystallography, MIfit. Dr. Badger is the author of over 35 scientific papers and has deposited over 90 structures in the Protein Data Bank. He has identified several hundred fragment screening hits and solved hundreds of protein:ligand structures from x-ray crystallographic data.
Dr. Badger has established operational fragment screening technologies at several different companies and led numerous fragment screening campaigns. He has designed and documented two scientifically and commercially successful fragment screening libraries and developed several focused scaffold libraries for specific targets. Dr. Badger developed the SDsearch software in order to aggregate cheminformatic and structure-based design methods for fragment library design and compound development into a convenient package. Dr. Badger has written two book chapters covering fragment library design and crystallographic screening.
